<p>Today I read this article:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1383143/Senior-Tory-baroness-forced-wait-hours-hospital-trolley-nurses-treated-drunks.html" target="_blank">Senior Tory baroness &#8216;forced to wait five hours on hospital trolley while nurses treated drunks&#8217;</a></p>
<p>The above article is just one of many examples of this problem.</p>
<p>Here in Australia, we have similar issues.</p>
<p>The drunks are people with <strong>self inflicted</strong> and <strong>largely avoidable</strong> health issues.</p>
<p>Significant numbers of drunks and excessive drug users <strong>abuse hospital staff, and other patients</strong> &amp; <strong>repeat their stupid behavior</strong> (of getting drunk, or drugged, to a level that requires medical attention).</p>
<p><strong>Why should such thoughtless, selfish and stupid people deprive the needy of health resources and care?</strong></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s look at the issue from another angle&#8230;.</p>
<p>Simply speaking, <strong>our society is saving some of these drunks, or drug abusers, from death and serious long term injury; while at the SAME time inflicting (by lack of care or resources) deaths, suffering and long term injury upon people who had no choice (i.e. the genuinely sick and innocent)</strong>.</p>
<p>Where is the <strong>fairness</strong> or <strong>justice</strong> in that?</p>
<p>What a society we have eh? What poor leadership (in allowing this situation)!</p>
<p>Part of the solution?</p>
<p>Send drunks, and drug abusers, to the bottom of the health queue and force them to pay for their health care (drink related).</p>
<p>Perspective from natural law: When more drunks etc die, or suffer long term ill effects as a result; it will be a <strong>disincentive</strong> for others to copy their behavior. Financial impact will also <strong>dissuade</strong> such people from indulging to excess and in any case, they would have less cash to spend on their &#8216;poison&#8217;. Nature (biology) would take its course, and people who by <strong>their own choice and defective thinking</strong> drank to the extent that their death resulted, would be eliminated from the breeding cycle (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_selection" target="_blank">natural selection</a>); and of course be unable to re-attend at emergency and <strong>steal</strong> resources from the genuinely deserving.</p>
<p>Seems harsh?</p>
<p>Nature is harsh.</p>
<p>The current situation is not helping such people &#8211; in fact it is <strong>encouraging</strong> them! We are in effect as a society helping these people to harm themselves.</p>
<p>Innocent people from right across society suffer greatly because of these selfish and thoughtless people.</p>
<p>Society progressively crumbles.</p>

<p>Getting the sleep equation right is essential because we are then in harmony with the natural laws of life which work in the background; whether we like them or not and whether we believe in them or not. Smart, humble minded people, acknowledge these natural laws and aim to live in accordance with them. Go with the real flow of life, not against it.</p>

<p><em><em>The authors, Michael Smolensky, who is director of the Memorial-Hermann Chronobiology Center and a professor at the University of Texas-Houston&#8217;s School of Public Health, and Lynne Lamberg, a health writer, explain how monitoring one&#8217;s clock by keeping a &#8220;chronorecord&#8221;&#8211;a personal chart that maps variations in mood, alertness, sleep cycle, eating habits, and symptoms of pain&#8211;can empower us in achieving long-term vitality. Chapter by chapter, they show how timing is everything, whether applied to weight loss, sleep, sex, exercise, or recovery from illness. In the section &#8220;Sickness and Health from A to (Nearly) Z,&#8221; they address issues ranging from depression and hay fever to heartburn and skin disorders, giving practical advice on how to integrate awareness of the body clock and conventional treatment methods. For example, application of topical treatments such as moisturizers and hydrocortisone creams may be more beneficial in the afternoon than the morning because body temperature is higher and the skin more porous. Chronobiology may also explain the seasonality of illnesses: multiple sclerosis tends to worsen in late spring and summer; testicular cancer is diagnosed more in winter; and postmenopausal women detect their own breast cancers most frequently in the fall, probably due to &#8220;annual cycles in &#8230; hormone activity or seasonal changes in melatonin secretion.&#8221;</em></em></p>

Happiness.</p>
<p>Discovered that a tooth I thought needed filling actually needs a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_(dentistry)" target="_blank">crown</a>&#8230;..</p>
<p>&#8230;.and that two other teeth needed a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_restoration" target="_blank">filling</a> replacement.</p>
<p>Had one filling (have to wait for another day for the one on the other jaw), discussed crowns &#8211; porcelain and porcelain/gold mix which would you believe, is cheaper &#8211; and a possible <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_extraction" target="_blank">extraction</a> (the other alternative).</p>
<p>Discussed the ins and outs of crowns, including the fact that if I have a gold one, I must ensure that I do not fall into enemy hands; and the clutches of a nice man with pliers.</p>
<p>Attending an honest, relaxed, caring and elite dentist is a plus too. It&#8217;s gratifying  to get the real truth about what is best for me, my health and my teeth. No fancy, expensive, showy &#8216;celebrity&#8217; dentists for me, just the best. (<a href="http://www.breezedental.com.au/" target="_blank">Breeze Dental, Helensvale, Gold Coast</a>).</p>
<p>I enjoyed my visit to the dentist &#8211; before, during and after.</p>
<p>These days I have no fear of the dentist and transformed the visit to the dental surgery into a happy occasion. Life is short, and I know how to experience  joy/happiness in spite of my circumstances. I don&#8217;t have to &#8216;work&#8217; at it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Stretch Relief</strong> is very important for people who spend much time sitting in front of a computer.</p>
<p>Recently I have come across a useful App for my iPhone called <a href="http://www.rajapplications.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Stretch Relief</strong> by Raj Applications</a>.</p>
<p>Currently on special at 99 cents (half price), Stretch Relief is a well designed and attractive App which helps me to do a wide range of stretches at any time during the day. You can find it in the Apple Store <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stretch-relief/id381043838?mt=8" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
<p>These days I regularly exercise (<a href="http://specialforcesfitnessandselfdefense.com/" target="_blank">Martin Day&#8217;s Fighting Fit Program</a>) every morning (at home), do skipping every afternoon and fit in some walking approximately 4-5 days every week. Stretching is handy for those long stretches &#8211; excuse the pun &#8211; at my computer. The <strong>Stretch Relief App</strong> has taught me about stretches I had no idea about. In fact some are unusual.</p>
<p>With my knowledge of the body mind relationship (how the psyche responds when the body is manipulated) I can see that some of the suggested stretches will have significant psychological benefits also, though you may not notice them.</p>
<p>The Stretch Relief App is very easy to use and you can set the options for between 4 and 8 stretches per set. Then you press the Stretch button (see image) and the first stretch appears. Each Stretch is labeled, has an example image and instructions. When complete you press an arrow to go to the next stretch in the set. Sets vary, so next time you start the App you will see different suggestions.</p>
<p>I quote from the developer&#8217;s website:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>&#8230;unlike the other stretch apps in the App Store, Stretch Relief has stretches designed for you to do at your desk in your office attire, so you can feel comfortable stretching in your cubicle or when you’re on the go.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Stretching regularly is a great investment in your health and will help you get more done, and to a higher standard.</p>
<p>You may find that doing the suggested stretches helps with:</p>
<ul>
<li>Back pain relief</li>
<li>Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI)</li>
<li>Stress</li>
<li>Aches</li>
<li>Tension</li>
</ul>
<p>In summary; I like this App a lot and investing in health is a good thing.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s some food for thought&#8230;..spend time NOW looking after your health rather than time later being ill, or in hospital even.</p>
