What is Twitter?
Twitter? What is it? How can I use it? What will I get from it?
These are common questions asked by people about Twitter.
I mentioned Twitter in a post recently about social media and the Mumbai massacre.
Simply speaking, Twitter is a way of sending quick short messages to lots of people all at once (your “followers”). The messages are limited to no more than 140 characters. You can also get updates from people you are following. As I mentioned in my article on social media, news about the Chinese earthquakes first broke on Twitter, which is a key illustration of the importance of Twitter. It is clearly a social tool which people need to become familar with; otherwise they will be “left behind”.
To help you understand more about Twitter I have listed links to a few interesting articles:

Note: the following link contains some information about using SMS in conjunction with Twitter. SMS is not required to use Twitter and in some countries (such as Australia), SMS are no longer sent out via the service. I never use SMS – either to send to Twitter, or receive from it – I just use a web browser.
