Health news & information. Who to believe?

| November 22, 2008 | 0 Comments

Good health is clearly a very important aspect of life, though strangely, it is often ignored by many people until it is missing. Clever huh?

Obtaining reliable health news and information is of course very important, but who can we rely upon?

Big Pharma? Perhaps history and common sense tells us that big money and big companies perhaps don’t have our best interests at heart.

Government? Politicians and power brokers are not known for their honesty or immunity from corruption or powerful lobbying.

Doctors? Many doctors are overworked and a few are quite frankly incompetent. Doctors can be inaccessible and in any case, even if we have medical Doctor friends, as I do, we cannot bother them about every health question that we have – it would be totally unreasonable.

The internet? The Internet as a term, is very broad – there are all kinds of channels through which we can receive knowledge, however some of these are misleading, and others downright dangerous.

I use a combination of careful analysis, and to some extent peer review, to get an idea as to how worthwhile a source of health information is.

Here are some interesting health related websites:

Ted – Ideas worth spreading: Dr Dean Ornish

Dr. Dean Ornish wants you to live longer, and have more fun while you’re at it.

Here is one of his speeches, on: Healing and other natural wonders.

This is his website: Preventive Medicine Research Institute.

Note: The Ted website showcases inspired talks by the world’s greatest thinkers and doers.

Natural News – independent news on natural health, nutrition and more. (25,000 free articles and special reports).
